To start, we were sent multiple videos and screenshots showing this person using slurs, threatening others, wishing death on people, and making inappropriate comments toward a minor. Even if they did not know the person’s age at the time, if there is any possibility that someone may be underage, it is your responsibility to ask and make sure.
Additionally, the “summing up the situation” post they made in March focused almost entirely on villainizing the person who exposed them rather than addressing or defending their own actions. While I do not condone anything the exposer did either, that response was not a good look, and didn't give us any reason to debate on whether or not it'd be a good idea to keep them in our team.
As for the claims about being “fired and expelled without warning,” based on previous messages and behavior, this person has not handled being removed from projects well in the past. Because of that, we did not want to risk putting any members of our team in a position where they could face harassment or unnecessary conflict. Also, given the scale of the controversy, it should not be difficult to understand why these decisions were made.
The SDVR team, try our best to stay out of drama and avoid controversy. Situations like this are extremely demotivating, especially when someone is fully aware of what they’ve done and still attempts to damage the project by “warning” potential auditioners against us.
Additional - From this point forward, I will personally be carrying out background checks on anyone we consider bringing onto the project. I do wish I had started doing that sooner so this situation could have been avoided entirely.
